March is full of celebratory days to connect with your patients and team. This week, Dentistry 411 has compiled a list of activities for the various spring events and will provide tips on actions you can implement in your practice to show the community you care.
National Dentist’s Day
March 6 is National Dentist’s Day. It’s a great time to show extra love to important members in an oral health team. Take time to post on social media and encourage established and new patients to schedule their biannual appointments.
Dentainment, a dental marketing agency, created an entire site dedicated to the holiday. There are resources for patients and dentists looking to celebrate. They have a collection of graphics to either print out as physical posters or share online.
Practice owners can show their respect in several ways. Mementos of gratitude like mugs or tooth-shaped gifts are sweet, heart-warming tokens. You can also order a floral arrangement or a large gift basket of treats to share in the office.
Dental Assistants Recognition Week
Dental Assistant Recognition Week is the first full week of March. This year it falls from March 1 to March 7. This week is designed to show appreciation for the work of dental assistants. Team members in this role perform a wide variety of tasks to keep the office running smoothly. From the front desk to chairside they are helping every step of the way. This week is a chance to say thank you for their hard work and multi-use skills.
This year’s theme is “Superheroes Behind the Smiles.” You can show your appreciation by providing morning snacks to kick-start the day. Coffee and donuts can be a sweet surprise. Bonus points if treats are in dental or superhero shapes and designs to match the annual theme.
Recognition weeks are also perfect opportunities to reinvest in your team and office space. Depending on your budget, you can pay for a continuing education course for your assistants or buy tickets to an upcoming conference. Is there any aging or outdated equipment making your team’s jobs harder? Looking into possible upgrades or replacements. These gestures show your dental assistants and staff that you listen to their concerns and take them seriously. Support goes a long way in maintaining morale.
World Oral Health Day
Towards the end of the month, on March 20, we have our final awareness event. The FDI World Dental Federation designed World Oral Health Day to bring attention to the burden of oral diseases across health systems and economies. 2026 is the final year of a three-year-long “Happy Mouth” campaign. This year’s theme is “A Happy Mouth Is a Happy Life.” With the help of a beaver mascot named Toothie, the campaign champions the holistic benefits of a well-kept mouth.
Their site has videos, graphics, toolkits, and more to share with patients. These resources provide engaging and quick ways to connect with patients about oral care. Because the campaign aims to be accessible to as many people as possible, most content is translated into several languages.
Are you hosting an activity to celebrate World Oral Health Day? The site has map labeling events across the globe. You can submit your activity and bring more attention to the cause!
Awareness-raising events like these bring extra attention to overlooked aspects of health and the people maintaining it. Take advantage of the resources available to not only show appreciation to your team but also to educate your patients.
